The Cloudy Bay Shack is not usually available for private bookings, however, at present there is the opportunity to be our guest for a very special stay here at the Cloudy Bay winery home.

The Shack sits on the site of the original bungalow that our founder, David Hohnen, lived in and which was destroyed by fire. The new Shack was developed by award-winning New Zealand architects and is constructed from natural materials, including weathered steel, wood, stone and glass. Inside, it showcases the best of New Zealand art and design, with open living spaces and four queen ensuite bedrooms (three with bath tubs) that reflect the local environment: the Cape Suite, The River Suite, The Mountain Suite and the Cloud Suite.

For a short time we are making available a limited number of 'Secret Shack Escape' packages for two nights in up to four en-suite queen bedrooms (maximum group size is 5 guests).

Your itinerary and inclusions are shown below and we will finalise the details to suit your preferences upon booking (some possible options shown after the itinerary).

Day 1:

15:00 - Check in and welcome to the Shack with a glass of Pelorus sparkling wine 

19:00 - Pickup for dinner out or a night on your own (we are happy to arrange the dinner reservation and provide the transfers as part of your package)

Day 2:

Breakfast on own.

09:30 - Vineyard Tour by car to explore the Cloudy Bay special vineyard sites.

11:00 - Private tasting of the Cloudy Bay wine range.

19:00 - Enjoy a very special Epicurean Experience at the Shack with your private chef and waiter, all dishes prepared from fresh local and seasonal produce and paired with specially selected Cloudy Bay wines (this can be a lunch or dinner depending on your preference).

Breakfast on own

About the Shack:

The Shack is fully self contained and has 4 bedrooms each with Queen size bed, private en-suite bathroom, a gourmet kitchen & modern living spaces. 

The kitchen will be well stocked with a selection of gourmet local products, breakfast provisions, local beer & beverages, and the range of Cloudy Bay wines. 

What to bring:

Whilst Marlborough is known as the sunniest place in New Zealand and enjoys some beautiful winter days, crisp frosty nights are also frequent in the cooler seasons, and afternoon temperatures drop quickly as the sun goes down. Please bring a jacket to wear & some warm clothes to layer. Please also bring flat heeled comfortable shoes with a fully enclosed toe (for vineyard, winery & boating tours).
